Jeff Burtt – Barrister is an experienced employment lawyer specializing in wrongful dismissal. Jeff is renowned as successful counsel for the plaintiff in the first mass wrongful dismissal class action in Canada, Gagne v. Silcorp Ltd. For 25 years, Jeff has provided strategic advice and representation to non-union employees and employers in addressing the full spectrum of workplace legal challenges including contract negotiation, policies, discipline, termination, severance packages, and wrongful dismissal actions. Jeff works proactively with clients to devise proactive strategies, minimize costs and achieve optimal solutions. After his 1990 call to the Ontario Bar, Jeff cut his teeth as a litigator with Shibley Righton LLP, Goodman and Carr LLP, and Meighen Demers (now Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP), a prestigious business law boutique firm in Toronto. Jeff represented clients in all sectors of the economy and effectively litigated all manner of cases, including employment matters, complex contract disputes, tort claims, fraud recovery, mortgage remedies, banking, insurance, professional regulation, and securities. Jeff has successfully litigated on behalf of (and against) numerous Fortune 500 companies.
An Ottawa native, Jeff is naturally a rabid Senators fan. He also pursues a passion for golf at every opportunity, much to the chagrin of his wallet. Jeff resides in the Upper Beaches neighbourhood in Toronto with his wife Lisa, their lovely daughters Maya and Isobel, and their canine tormentor Nellie.
